How to setup a trackball for mame?

Hey guys.....I was just wondering what I need to do to get mame to use my trackball and spinner? I would like to use the trackball in games like Golden Tee Golf but not sure how to set the game up to use it. Do I need to edit a controller INI file or something? Wasn't sure if each game had it's own INI file or how that works.......

When you start a game press the tab key and then hit input this game. Or if you use mame without hyperspin just right click on the game and press properties.
