Nothing works right

Hey, I have a Dell core 2 duo win 7 64 bit. 3 GHz on each and 6 gig or RAM.

I dont know if the new Hyperspin 1.0 is ment for this machine.
When I start the program I can exit the intro video with a key press.

When in the main menu I Everything works fine except...
1) When I try and goto a system. IE MAME NES SNES ect the screen goes black like it is going to change but then HS returns to the main menu on the system I am trying to access.
2) If I hit the esc button the program pauses. No exit menu comes on. I can however hit enter while it is paused and it will close.

When I am in a single mode IE MAME..
1) HS starts on the A's. I can move the wheel up and down fine and start a game, also exit the game once I am playing it.
2) I cannot enter the Genre menu at all.
3) When I press left or right -to skip a letter- HS starts to get rid of the current theme and freezes on just the background. Press the left or right a couple times the screen goes dark. Every now and again a letter shows up but nothing can be done. I can hit esc button and go back to the frozen background image.
4) Hitting esc button will not bring up an exit menu andcannot be exited. I must alt f4 it.

As for the log files...
I have 2 errors.
1) Startup program unavailable.
2) Error initializing joysticks.

I have this same exact setup working on a Win XP 64 bit. I have it installed on my neighbors Win 7 64 bit with an I5. It also is the same exact one I have on a Win XP 32 bit laptop that can barely run HS but all these other systems work fine. So is it maybe the system I am running? I have no error on anyother machine.

I have done a fresh install of HS to see if that would help but same issues. I have totally reformatted my computer and had a fresh HS install but again same issues. And yes I have tried shutting the system off and restarting it. lol

I have put HS0.8.0.0 on this machine and it works great no problems at all. I would like to get the newer version working and no have to deal with the older one. Thanks

couple of things:
1. did you set up your emulators outside of HS first and THEN set them up in HQ?
2. could you post your log file here?

Yes I have set up the emulators outside of HS. I have the same install on other computers and HS works fine Just not this one.

When I compared the log files all is the same except that The other computers when MAME is selected they actually load the MAME and load the wheel. The other computer doesnt even load MAME. It just reloads the Main Menu and allways back to the default MAME.

I think I have narrowed this problem down to a hardware issue that is making this newer version of HS not compatible with my machine.

Only the older version of HS works not the newer 1.0 or 1.1.

Any devs have an idea of what might have changed in the great switch over that may have some effect or conflicts with certian hardware?

Could it be the video card since it will not show the exit menu options and the skip to a letter thing? But why would that effect the not being able to get into the genre on single mode or having to select a subcatagory at the main menu and having it go right back to the main menu and start on MAME no matter what system you choose?

***UPDATE***

Ok since it has 6 gig of ram, I started pulling and inserting ram in the slots. 2-2gigs 2-1gigs. I think that all the ram is good. It all worked the same as before, So I think its not a memory problem.

As for the HD I tried buying a new HD and it still does the same thing.

I tried a new video card. Nothing happened. Still the same thing. Not working properly.

So I figured it has to do with the processor. I tried a few different things.
Turned on the core affinity option in task manager. Tried each processor. Nothing still.
Went in the Bios and choose the option to disable multi procesors. So it only reconizes one instead of two. Still nothing.
Turned off the virtualizations in the bios also. Still nothing.

Tryed setting the computer to the lowest stable settings I could and nothing happened.

Tried running it a higher priority. Runing as administrator. Running it in a different verion of windows (you select an OS thing).

Strange that it worked on a p4 quad core but not the core 2 duo. I can not believe this new verion will NOT work but the old one will work. I guess if it comes to it I will put the old on it but I really do not want to.

So I am really out of options on what to try. I am open to any more sugesstions.

I am out of time to send it back. That is not an option.

No development people want to chime in on this issue???

Not sure what the issue could be, HS runs great on the Dell core2duo that I have, the symptoms you are describing arent any that we've heard, so its possible its something on that one system. Do you have any joysticks plugged in by chance?

BBBill. I have tried it with multiple keyboards an ipac 2 USB ipac 4 USB an uhid and a xbox360 controller. All emulators work fine out of HS.

Do you have any antivirus, antispyare, real time protection going on, HS access the filesystem ALOT for everything, even the exit menu's etc... Make sure none of that is blocking HS.

OK. I have redone the computer again. Could not get a VM installed. Got the new stuff in and updated everything. Disabled everything I could Imagine. Even took memory down because I thought it may have too much. Even put the HD down to 250 GB. Thought it may have too much. Nothing has worked! I am really frustrated now. I can only do a couple more things to try and make this work.

I can go in the computer case and start pulling wires from the card readers, DVD drive ect. See if any of the hardware itself is interfering.

My fear is that it is in the Mothterboard itself and I am out of luck!!

I did order the IDENTICAL computer I have here from dell. Payed out the ass to get it here in a day or two.

My question is..... If this all happens with the same Identical computer. What does that mean? I cannot forsee 2 same computers being bad. But if they are how do I go about making them work? I can send the one back if I need to but I am stuck with this one I have.

- the sound card did not have the proper drivers installed. BUT even with the right drivers installed HS did not work properly. I plugged speakers in and VOILA! HS ran like a champ!

My diagnosis
- Newer equipment on a computer has detections that detect wether a device is plugged into the port or not. my case would be the speakers. When the speakers are plugged in HS works. when they are unplugged HS does not work.

I like many other people have a workstation where you have multiple monitors and computers up and running at the same time. I do not however have speakers for all the computers.

From now on every single computer will have speakers hooked up to them!!

The bug is that in 0.8.0.0 the speakers being plugged in or not has no effect on how HS operates. in the new 1.0 and update 1.1 something in the programming must have been changed where if no sound card is operational HS will not function right. It almost goes into a loop and will not pull other commands when the sound card is not operational( driver and speakers detected)

This is a wiered bug/glitch that only people who do not hook speakers up to their computers face. I must be the only person with no speakers on some computers trying to load HS!!!

or your computer has something that does autoswitching from a rear port to a headphone port. and that's messing with it somewhere.

This could be true. But it is something that is a glitch or a bug. The 0800 version works just fine with out anything holed up to it. Version 10 and 11 doesnot work properly.

Just had a problem and got it solved. So glad for everyones help on this. It is not a major issue just something minor that may or may not be worth fixing. Just something to consider.

Ya I found this bug myself when I went to put HS in my cab which didnt have speakers hooked up at first. I think it has something to do with the flash player, as soon as any sound tries to play then everything goes downhill from there. I was able to debug and find the problem right away but totally forgot to mention that this is a bug with the new HS since I fixed it right away by plugging speakers in. I'll have to look into the matter deeper to see if it is even possible to fix or not.

I have this problem also. Since there are no drivers for my soundcard for Windows 7 x64 I have the same problem. It works like a charm in Windows XP.

It's not the videos causing problems, since those do play. When I want to start a game it goes back to system selection. Hyperlaunch isn't even started. The Esc key pauses the application indeed. Look more like a problem in AutoIT to me.

Wow what an odd bug.. Glad you figured it out. The good news is that its a known bug now so if anyone has similar problems they shouldn't have to go through what you went through. =)

Thanks for sticking around and going through all the trouble to find the cause. I am sure if it was some new comer to HS they would have given up a long time ago.

omg thank you this happened to me and I formatted tried 2 conputers same problem and it was cause speakers werent plugged in, unbelievable

I reinstalled Windows and HS over and over again and this finally solved the problem ;)

This issue will be fixed on the next version. I forgot to do a sound capabilities check on startup of HS.

Amazing, I spent 5 hours bashing my head into a wall, and it turns out I just had to plug my speakers in......
