View Full Version : Sega Saturn 3D Box Art... USA Template

Hello again,
I am in the process of uploading my Sega Saturn 3D Boxart set...
It is not complete and nor the best looking quality (due to source images). The 2D set needs to be raised at a higher quality level and better scans/art needs to be collected. From that being said, its really not that bad for the most part especially if you want to complete that 3d look on your machine.
Im willing to tackle Sega Saturn cover art project since Sega Genesis art is kinda at a stale mate till new art is obtained. Its gonna be a slow process i'll assume since i can be busy here and there. Also from the source art i downloaded from the FTP... looks like its been through quite a bit. Any help of gettin Saturn scan would be appreciated.
I'll post some previews of this set in a lil while
BTW... I am aware that koolbrez is creating Sega Saturn 3D boxart aswell... He was making the "PAL" black box look and this is the "USA" white cd cased look. I encourage that project to finish aswell as we all can choose what fits their needs.

looking good mate, i like your template and koolbrez's but i think having a choice of different boxes is a good thing as alot of people have different tastes. :)
Dynamite I forgot to mention yesterday. Starcontrol has been collecting saturn boxart for a looong time, and has pretty much a completed set of both usa and pal boxes in very good quality. You should contact him and see if he can get you the boxes.
oh and here is a link to a bunch of the hi res scans, it is not his latest set I don't think but it is a lot of it.

i have his set.. i got my hands on it a while back and didnt do anything with it till now
im going through the images and building a complete set... then i'll work on making a list for quality
I'll release my 2D and 3D set
ok cool, let me know when you have your wanted list. I did a lot of collecting for him of saturn boxes so I probably have quite a few on my computer that you might need.

DynamiteSJ and dpar:
I'll leave the source you're working with in the Uploads folder you placed it in for now. PM me when you're done working with that and have final boxes to place. At that point we'll move the source into the WIP folder, I'll make sure the set and individuals are where they need to be (finals) and they can also be put on the download page. Thanks for your work on this!

I also changed slightly the design of the 3D boxart... made the side a lil wider and put the sega saturn logo on the bottom how the boxes really are. I left a blank spot above it so i can eventually put the title (wheel art) there to complete the look. I'll add the title art when the set comes closer of being complete quality wise.
Thanks

Good work. I'm a fan of the USA set myself. The only problem has been lack of availability of standard naming for USA Saturn titles. I expect to be making a compelling case for adopting Darkwater naming here in the next few months. Even though you haven't seen me around here lately I can assure you that I have not been idle. ;-)
I am uploading the covers you requested right now into the directory dpar made for you. A few notes:
Black Dawn -- the version I am sending you is cleaned and 640px wide which should be fine for your purposes. If it's not I've got a 1200dpi raw scan on my hard drive I haven't got around to cleaning up yet.
Space Hulk -- the version I'm sending you is the worst of the lot that you requested. I think it is probably adequate for your purposes, but if not, I do have a copy of the actual game and manual on its way to me and it should be here this week so I could get you a fresh scan.
The Cover Project -- I used to like it, but now I hate it. They stretch scans, and alter them. They are not for the purist. When I started collecting Saturn scans I used a lot of TCP images, and they were present in the set you downloaded from me. At this point I have replaced all of them in my personal collection except for Shinobi and Virtua Fighter. (Virtua Fighter was never even sold with a long box cover!). I would recommend purging them from your collection as well. The U.S. ones are easy to recognize because the spacing between the SA and TURN in the SEGA SATURN logo is wrong. If you want replacement art just ask.
I will be releasing an updated hi-res 2D Saturn box art torrent at some point, but I am in the middle of a big scan and clean right now so there is no point in doing it at the moment. I currently have about 51 Saturn manuals scanned and sitting on my hard drive awaiting cleaning and another 20 or so on the way, and I've recently completed cleaning a lot of other scans.
My PAL set of covers is nowhere near as good as my U.S. set but it is still the best out there and what I have now is better than what I had posted here previously. (Dpar has done a good job filling in some of the holes!) So if you decide you want to add the unique European covers that art is available as well.
I also have a decent but still incomplete set of rears, U-cards, and CD scans. And then there are the Asian scans -- far from complete but still the most complete set on the web. It would be a lot of work, but it might be fun to use the actual spines for your 3D covers. Of course, at this point I can only provide about half of them.
Lastly, I've got a spreadsheet listing all the releases by region if you need it.
So anything Saturn that you need, just ask.

I went ahead and put my available U-cards up there in case you want to take a look at using the real spines. There are more than I thought there were. I don't have an exact count, but there are spines for at least 150 of the ~250 U.S. Saturn games, and more will be coming available soon. It would look awesome if most of your collection used the real spines and you only had to fake a few of them with wheel art.
BBB once had an idea of having rotatable 3D boxes that had the fronts, backs, and spines all properly mapped so you could use the controls and get a good 3D view of the box flipping over as you looked at the front and back. I'm shooting to have all the real art available for when that day finally comes.

Dude, StarControl- what's up dude! Haven't seen you for a long time. You're a true collector bro, thanks for the update. As for the 3D rotating boxes:

I'll try to update that list aswell.

Great work and I really like it.
Any chance of a PAL set with the black boxes. The current xml on hyperlist is mostly PAL games and SSF emulation compatability lists are most complete for PAL games.
Cheers
I thought koolbrez was working on a pal set. I know starcontrol has almost a full st of pal boxes already so it wouldn't be too hard to make a set would just have to get the boxes from him first.

found another saturn scans site today;
http://www.museodelvideojuego.com/caratulas-saturn/
Yeah that is a good site. The best site around for Euro Saturn scans is this one:
http://www.good-old-times.com/
Although Starcontrol's set pretty much has every one available. I have a bunch of other sites as well from when I was finding boxes for him, but his set already has them included in it.
This one doesn't have a lot but it has some nice ones:
http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.consolpassion.org%2F
Let me know once you've gone through Starcontrol's set he uploaded Dynamite. Since I know the majority of ones that need side/back art are probably in there. Once you get a list of the ones we actually still need then I can see if I can find someone to scan them for us possibly.
