So I have mame32fx that supports highscore..The high scores work fine outside of mame but when I try to set up hightotext and turn hyperlaunch off every time I get a highscore in hyperspin a message pops up saying to extract something and when i do it overwrites files and says high to text has encountered a problem and needs to close..Any ideas?

I believe you need to remove the archive file in that folder that starts with or contains the word MAME. You probably have something like MAME32fx.zip. Get rid of it.

Whatever folder your MAME is installed to, and Hyperspin is pointing to. It's looking in that folder.

OK so within my mame folder is a mameiu32fx.exe and a mame0136s.exe I have HS pointed to the ui32fx.exe for some reason the mame0136s.exe is seen as a 7zip file..Everytime I get a high score hitotext opens up that mame0136s.exe prompting it to extract..I did once and nothing happened and hightotext said it needed to close..I took out that exe and mame obviously didnt work and hightotext just says it needs to close..Suggestions?

HiToText does not care what settings you have setup for HS, it cares about the folder it's being told contains the .hi file and uses that information to find the mame.exe. If you have ANY file that is NOT a mame.exe in that folder, it could find that and think that it is MAME. Remove ANY file that is not your MAME, with the words mame in it.

So Ive just now discovered that HiToText is crashing on me also in Hs 1.0.
"HitoText has Stopped Working"

It does this on both my test setup (vista32) and arcade (vista64)
It worked and still works flawlessly in Hs .0.8.1 (with all versions of HiToText) so its, I beleve for me, confirmed that its an issue with HS 1.0, 1.1

I have,
-created a new\fresh install of HiToText, in the
\hyperspin\hitotext -folder using (HiToText_2010.02.24)

-the hitotext.xml is placed there also (tried in Hs root also)

-hiscore.dat ive tried placing in Hyperspin, hitotext and mame folders either all three at once or (1) folder at a time.

-hitotext.exe is in both the hs root directory and the hitotext folder
(also tried it removed from hitotxt folder.)

-made sure that there are no other occurences of mame.exe
i.e.(no mame32fx.exe, mame.zips or mamesource.zips) in my mame folder.

-made sure to run HiToText prior to running it in Hs to remove the,
"are you sure you want to run this program" or similar message.

What am I doing wrong? It must be somthing simple, or is it a bug with HS 1.0\1.1?

mame0136s.exe

that's because you downloaded the self-extracting zip file of the source files for mame0136. You need to download the binary, not the source- then run it and it will say "where do you want to extract to". it is just a zip file.

I still cant work this out, I even removed all my old hiscore .hi files and started fresh.

I can get hi scores to save while in Hyperspin (I see them in my Hi folder)
but everytime I get to a game on the wheel that has an actual .hi file already saved I still get this error.
"HitoText has Stopped Working"

It doesnt happen with other games that support HiScore if a .hi file doesnt exist for it.
I'm using mame137 compiled (it is working\saving .hi files in\out of HyperSpin)

Still works Flawlessly in HS .0.8.1 just not 1.0\1.1

Anyone?

HiToText works if you just use the command line version of it right? HiToText -r <path to .hi file>?

It works fine in HyperSpin 0.8.1
It only crashes in HyperSpin 1.0 or 1.1

Here is what I get from "command line"

HiToText -r <path to .hi file>

working not working

1st pic (running from Hs 1.0 folder)
HiToText.exe -r J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame\Mame_133\hi\zaxxon.hi
pause

2nd pic (running from Hs 1.0 folder)
HiToText -r J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame\Mame_133\hi\zaxxon.hi
pause

pic (2a) (running from Hs 1.0 folder without HitoText.xml) after click cancel on error msg
HiToText -r J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame\Mame_133\hi\zaxxon.hi
pause

pic (2b) (running from Hs 1.0 folder with HitoText.xml) after click cancel on error msg
HiToText -r J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame\Mame_133\hi\zaxxon.hi
pause

3rd pic (running from Hs 0.8.1 folder with and without HitoText.xml)
HiToText -r J:\HyperSpin\Emulators\Mame\Mame_133\hi\zaxxon.hi
pause

This is the same for other .hi files as well.
Hmmm why does it still work in the old HS?

I worked it out I think.

HS 1.0 requires "HitoText.xml" to be in the same directory as HiToText.exe
\HyperSpin\HiToText.exe
\HyperSpin\HiToText.xml
It will crash without it.

Also when downloading "HitoText.xml" from your thread, if in Internet Explorer, when I did a "select all\copy\paste"
of the xml code into a blank text file and then renamed it to "HitoText.xml", I would receive errors like the attachments above.

To work around this, I had to do a "save as" "HitoText.xml" (no copy) in Internet Explorer,
and then it finally worked for me.

In HyperSpin 1.0, there is a slight hesitation as if HitoText were going to crash, before the HiScore pops up but it does pop up (working)
(this hesitation cause all animations and sounds to pause briefly while in HyperSpin), and once the HiScore pops up, all HyperSpin animations and sounds return to normal.

In HyperSpin 0.8.1, there is only a very brief (virtually un-noticeable) hesitation.
Animations and sounds seem un-affected.

Is there any solution to the hesitation in Hs 1.0?

Glad you figured it out, HiToText shouldn't be failing without the new HiToText.xml file, however it apparently still is, I'll try to fix that for good when I update a new version. (Whenever that may be. =/)

As for the HyperSpin issue, I haven't talked to Bill too much about it, however I do know he is aware of it, and I also know that older versions of HiToText also have problems in HyperSpin 1.0+. I know Bill had also had some plans to improve the HiToText features in HyperSpin as well, so he may just do two birds with one stone when he looks at it.
