Contest!!! Best Overlay

So I am buy no means an artest. But I want to design a overlay for my cab. So i figured I would throw a contest to pick the top 3. First place is 50 Bucks, 2nd and 3rd both would be 25.

Once I get all the enteries in, I will try and get a Poll up. I will let everyone here on Hyperspin deside on what one gets to be placed on my control board.

Only request's I have is..

H4CK3R has to be in the art work somehow.

I love fractals, and 3D stuff.. so the more animated, and "ALIVE" the better.

Either a Matrix Feel.. and or an All out Cartoon, tag style.

Thoose are just MY personal prefernces, but like I said i will let YOU ALL decide whats get placed on the Cab.

Besides if it was "only" 2k you would think that the winner of designing your artwork would get more than just $50. Do yourself a favor and go on the BYOAC board and contact Waveryder, he does wonderful CP artwork.

Otherwise what you are asking is a bit much, 4-player control panels are big beasts and very difficult and time consuming for artists to do correctly.

That's an ignorant comment. The value is always in the eye of the beholder. There's also deadlines (ie: short timeframe is worth extra $$$). With my budget, I don't think I would pay $2000 for a CP, but I also know anything I would do wouldn't look anything as well, so IF I had the spare cash, and the product and support is excellent, why not? I wouldn't pay $100 grand for a car, but many feel there's value there, so they do, right?

2k is well worth it.... All the LEDWIZ Control boards, each button, Stick, and track ball all have Red, Blue, Green LED's to change colors and customize just the way I want. To me, it's worth every penny.

I would like to see yours Captain Flint....

To be honest, i have more money then time atm... Would rather pay someone that knows what they are doing to get it done right the first time, then try and save a buck and have a poorly built Item, or a nightmare from hell putting it all together.

I am in the process of redoing mine I am adding a spinner and U360's and new artwork, however If you want to see my first panel, it cost me around $300.00 in all, and works great.

I don't see any LED's ( which is what I wanted ) All the bells and wizzles cost more. Tho i have to give you credit, your CP looks great. I can not convince you of what Value money is to get what you want right the first time.

I didn't want to wait 2 months for my CP. I got mine withen 2 weeks. Granted I Might have saved a few hundered buy going with them, but like I said, I get what I want when i want it, and I don't mind paying for it.

If I really wanted to save 1900 I could of just gotten some off the self junk from Fry's or wallmart...

Value... It's what I think it's worth. Value to you is differn't. I have the same feeling for people that buy a mansion, and are single, with no children...

I see men my age going thur a midlife crysis ( 36 here ) and spend 50k on a car to help them relive thier youth... I spent 6k Total. Value....

I live here in Vegas... Where I USE to go out and drop 2k a night just playing around...

Now I have a new hobby with Blinky lights to amuse myself at home without having to go out to the bars, or casino's.... Value....

This thing has SAVED me money...

Having invested in much of the same equipment on my 2 player panel, 2k is on the high side but by no means out of the park. And I am sure the quality is stellar (looks to be from the pic at least) those lights are not cheap and there is a lot more hardware under the hood of that panel than you would think. I say no biggie great panel! Mame Marquees also does custom artwork, we got some amazing artwork done for a bartop I did, for the whole thing the design was like $200.

Between the Matrix and Black, I would stick with Black and that has nothing to do with the user created theme here as it looks nice but hands down, Matrix is one of the worst movies EVER!

The movie obviously did something right considering how much money it made and how much of a fan base it has. While I didn't like the sequels at all and almost wish they never had never been made, the original movie is absolutely fantastic and is a total mind trip the first time you watch it.

Ya I thought the first one was a good flick. Think I saw it twice in the theatre, which I rarely do with movies. But a matrix theme I dont think would be unique for a cpo. My personal taste would be something very colorful with lots of characters and nice graphics around the buttons and controls and labeled with nice fonts. For characters I'd go with something different than the usual local arcade graphics you see people doing, something different would be refreshing.

Fine =) This Contest will be open to everything.. Poll will be held next friday to Monday. Monday BadBoyBill Will tally the results and thats the Overlay that will go on the CP =)

Watch, tho I think having a overlay with thousands of arcade charators all over would be sweet, Still want H4CK3R in there somewhere.

Think it would be fun for the kids to play a game and see thier charator somewhere withen the overlay would be neat.. Kinda like find Waldo.. hehe

Update, changed and added graphics, I also cleaned up the border a bit although I'm not done with it. The very bottom part of the border may look bad but that's intentional - I want to be sure that it gets cut off after being printed.

Why don't you make a cpo with pictures of tons of buttons on it to really confuse people that want to play a game? Personally I hate control panels that look like someone dumped a bag of skittles on it. A mame machine doesn't have to have every possible button and controller on it to play Every game in mame, do what I'm doing and split it up a little, have one cabinet to play two player joystick games, another for trackball games, another for single joystick games with a REAL four-way joystick...you can't play pacman or donkey kong with an eight-way. Just my two cents....but I'm not bashing your panel looks well made, just not my taste.

It was a trade off with the wife... I started to collect the real deal's.... had Frogger, Silent scope, house of the dead.. it was starting to take up alot of space, not to mention electricity.

Wife agreed that I could build what I wanted, but i could only have one. Thus this was born, and I am currently selling off my other 4 machines.

It has everything, even the 4-way controller at the top for the old school games. Once it is finished it will move downstairs next to the pool table.

This is just more then a Cab, it's a new hobby. I will take pride in it, weather others are over it or not.

And as hobbies go, I am sure I will grow out of this, or I will make more to follow in the future.

Also try and remember I am NEW. didn't even know about Mame till 2 months ago. The only thing I am looking to change now or add is some Guns. But thats for another post =)

I Don't mind critizism, it helps me to understand things better from a differnt perspective, so please let me know what i could change in your Opion to help make this better =)

The reason for everything we do is for FUN, and to learn and share in the same passion we all have for gaming. I'm building the same CP. I looked at the one at mameroom, and 2k is a little too much for me, so I priced it out, and for what I wanted I could get the parts for about $900. I think building it will ultimately be more satisfying and rewarding, and teach me a lot. I really wish I could just buy it, but I'm cheap!

I'm also looking for a good design, and mine looks almost exactly the same. If you find a nice site, tell me!
