I am finding some Themes still not being packaged properly in the download section, although it’s becoming for less frequent. :)
I just wanted to know why there are any being miss packaged still since I thought they couldn’t be approved unless properly packaged. Having them all packaged the same makes it sooo much easier to download multiples and extract them all at once into their proper. :)

If they are using HyperTheme the packaging should be 100%. It may be a problem on your side if you are overwriting another theme for the same game.

If some themes aren't packaged properly, it should be posted. Not to chastise or anything like that, but just to limit the support issue of "why is XXX theme not working right?". This in turn would help educate those authors who are either forgetful or just didn't know.

Some people seem to package the themes with a folder named the same as the game and inside it is the image, and ect files, instead of it starting with the image, and etc files.

huh? I think you misinterpreted his post. (Refering to Kingb33) What he's saying is that when people release their themes, on occasion the theme isn't packaged correctly. (IE: the zip file contains a different directory structure than the normal)
Basically he's asking why these themes were approved.

We will try to be more strict in that area now that HT is out, if you see a theme packaged wrong list it for us and it will be disapproved. And if the user that created it wants it to be reapproved they'll have to package it correctly.

Ok gotcha. Where do you want me to list that kinda stuff at?

Ok I guess that will work for now posting them here.
Here are the three I noticed today:
Lemmings - lemmings(derkrug 9-7-08) (471.5 KB)
Paperboy - paperboy(derkrug 9-6-08) (764.1 KB)
Aladdin - aladbl(derkrug 9-6-08) (1.46 MB)
There are several more I noticed last week when I downloaded a bunch of the themes, but I dont know how far back you want me to go.
I have every theme saved in a folder by how they were packaged so there are alot of miss packaged themes but im assuming you dont wont to go to the trouble of redoing all those themes. :(

I edited your account so you can edit themes, thanks for contributing to this.
FROM NOW ON:
If your theme isnt packaged correctly as per the stickies, then your theme will be shot down for approval. Your creating more work for everyone packaging your themes wrong, HyperTheme will output your theme correctly also.

We talking all user themes here then? I have not installed any of them yet maybe just redownload the ones you corrected... How long till the changes take effect?
osburn383

Yea all the user themes.
The changes will be take effect immediately. I just have to finish uploading them which is farely tedious. That and i took a break, so another hour or two and ill be done.

I'm confused. I thought standard naming was Game name - rom name(author - date). If this is not the correct way to name a theme post then the sticky should be changed.
osburn383
09-11-2008, 04:55 PM
The sticky is correct.
Its that the packaging was wrong for some files.
If you use HT than it will automaticly packaging them correctly.
If not than it should be like the following.
The zip file should only contain the files after for example: media/mame and the files inside of the mame folder is the only ones you should package like images, sounds, video, particle, wheel, etc.. into a zip file.
No other folders should be there if you want an example just download your fixed themes and look at how the structure is setup.

Right you got that part correct now compare that to how you named em.

Alright, I see what your talking about now. I guess the problem was that I was using Hypertheme to create a zipped package. Just to make sure I get this correct for future themes, I should be using Hypertheme to create a standard folder package, edit the folder name, and then manually create a zip?
And I'm sorry those files were uploaded with the wrong names. I should have been more diligent in reviewing these.
Thanks Osburn for fixing these, didn't mean to make this so difficult.
Thanks, Dan

Sorry for the confustion everyone, I know why theres a problem on the actual name
I actually originally only wanted the zip to be named romname(username_date) and the forum post with the description before that.
What happens is regardless of how HyperTheme or how you name it manually the download section of this site will change the name of your theme when the user downloads it to the name that you put in the filename field.
One important thing is that HyperTheme does put the right folder structure for you. As far as naming goes, all that is important is that you enter the name of the download properly when filling out the information in the upload process.
So just enter:
description - ronname(username_date) when uploading. You can copy and paste the name HyperTheme gives your file and just add the game description yourself on the upload page.
