View Full Version : Daphne and HyperLaunch How To Write-Up

Visitor Q

Here is a quick write up on how to get Daphne working with HyperLaunch.

Example Game "Astron Belt"

Make sure "astron.txt" is in the "framefile" folder under the Daphne install folder.

My astron.txt reads as follows...

D:\Emulation\Roms\Laserdisc\Astron Belt
10 astron.m2v

"D:\Emulation\Roms\Laserdisc\Astron Belt" is the dir where I have the laserdisc file stored for this game. These files include “astron.dat”, “astron.m2v” & “astron.ogg”.

My Daphne.ini file reads as follows, only the top half that I post needs to be changed to reflect where you have Daphne installed to.

[exe info]
path = C:\Emulation\Emulators\Daphne\
rompath = C:\Emulation\Emulators\Daphne\framefile\
userompath = true
exe = daphne.exe
hyperlaunch = true
romextension = txt
parameters =
pcgame = false
pcgameextension =
winstate = HIDDEN

C:\Emulation\Emulators\Daphne\ is where Daphne is installed and C:\Emulation\Emulators\Daphne\framefile\ is where my framefile dir is where I told you to put "astron.txt".

Make sure you add the line "hyperlaunch = true" and that’s it!

Best of luck and thanks to Bill for helping me get mine working. I had some PMs about this so I figured a write-up would be best.

Enjoy!

ps. Do the following for each of your framefiles adding the path of where the actual images files are stored on your hard drive and be sure to put them all in the framefile dir under Daphne.

this still doesnt work...

here's my daphne log, can anyone see something their that can help me?

daphne log:

--DAPHNE version 1.0.0
--Command line is: C:\Program Files\daphne-1.0-win32\daphne.exe lair vldp -fullscreen -x 640 -y 480 -nohwaccel -framefile C:\Program Files\daphne-1.0-win32\framefile\lair.txt
--CPU : GenuineIntel 1150 MHz || Mem : 2048 megs
--OS : Windows NT/2000 || Video : NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
--OpenGL: Compiled In
--RGB2YUV Function: MMX
--Line Blending Function: MMX
--Audio Mixing Function: MMX
Setting screen width to 640
Setting screen height to 480
Unknown command line parameter:
Files\daphne-1.0-win32\framefile\lair.txt
Bad command line or initialization problem (see daphne_log.txt for details).
To run DAPHNE, you must specify which game to run and which laserdisc player you are using.
For example, try 'daphne lair noldp' to run Dragon's Lair in testing mode.

thx, magostin

Are you using the loader? You might need to get into that fist, and set which ld player to use, or use the mpegs if thats what you're trying to do.

You also may need to downgrade if you are using the mpegs. I know you need the discs in order to run the newer versions

you need quotes around your framefilepath.

"C:\Program Files\daphne-1.0-win32\framefile\lair.txt "

Also check the daphne log.

Make sure everything loads outside of HS first and then work on it loading inside it.

I'm using the Daphne loader and I've been able to launch games through the loader no problem...but I can't get anything to load in HS. Even though I'm pointing HS to the loader's daphne.exe, it doesn't appear to be launching at all (i get no output to the log file). Anyone get this working?

Post your daphne.ini please, its in your HyperSpin/Setttings folder.

Here is my daphne.ini:

[exe info]
path = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\"
rompath = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\framefile\"
userompath = true
exe = daphne.exe
hyperlaunch = true
romextension = txt
parameters =
pcgame = true
pcgameextension =
winstate = HIDDEN

[video defaults]
width = 400
height = 400
x = 300
y = 400
rotation = 0
animation_time = .5
animation_type = none
animation_start = none
border_color = 0x000000
border_size = 12
forceaspect = horizontal
belowwheel = false

Here is the framefile it's referencing:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\vldp\sdq"
3600 sdq.m2v
38000 sdq-colorbars.m2v
40000 sdq-crosshairs.m2v
41500 sdq-blank.m2v

The C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\vldp\sdq directory holds all of the m2v, ogg and dat files.

Leave off the quotes on the following lines:

path = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\"
rompath = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Daphne\framefile\"

Also, I don't think your framefile needs to have quotes on the path either.

I just tried this and still have the same problem

This is how I have my Daphne setup in HyperSpin.

[exe info]
path = Z:\Daphne\
rompath = Z:\Daphne\framefile\
userompath = true
exe = daphne.exe
romextension = txt
parameters =
pcgame = true
pcgameextension = BAT
winstate = HIDDEN
hyperlaunch = true

Before trying to get it to work via HyperSpin.... Go through the DaphneLoader and configure each game and run ithem to make sure they work first.

Welp, I figured it out. First problem was that I had HyperLaunch in it's own folder within the HS directory. After I moved it to the root of the HS directory it at least tried to launch daphne. The second part of the problem was the directory structure. It really didn't like the spaces...even if I enclosed every reference in the daphne.ini and framefile in quotes. I ended up moving daphne into the HS\Emulators\ folder and now it works like a charm. Thanks for the help guys...and keep up the good work!

DaphneLoader seems to create the framefiles under the vldp\Game Name subfolder instead of the framefile subfolder. I'm guessing it's ok to just copy and paste the file into the framefile folder?

You will need to edit the framefile and point it to where you have your video files at.
