Hey everyone!

I've been stalking around since late last year, a avid fan of the work put into the project and tryed my hand at contributing to the project but like some of the users on this site, i have absolutly no useable talent at all.. im not good at photoshop and im not the brightest when it comes to creating a theme that dosnt look like it was created by a 5 year old mentaly challenged child.

But id still like to contribute something and thats when i remembered there being a Street Fighter 4 contest some time back, remembering that got me thinking about payed work for the good the community in form of eighter commision work for the artist or Hyperspin as a whole.

What i would like to hear from Bill and just anyone with an opinon about this, is just that.. your opinon!

TL-DR - Let's say i have 100USD i would like to contribute to the project in eighter commision work for artists or the site, what is your opinon about that? is it something that the community would wellcome? or would it be a bad thing?

Well, you could always toss in the 100 as a donation and we can use it to sponsor more contests like we did for the SF4 contest.

We dont mind at all , if you have like a favorite artist say bodydump and you want to hook him up for a certain theme or wheel images, then go for it. Alot of the guys here take requests and you dont have to pay anything. But you could use it as an incentive to get something quicker if thats what you want to do.

A pure donation is an option i guess. But i was thinking about 2 other options that i would like to hear your opinon about.

1.) Commision work (thus rewarding artists for the work they do) and making the work publicly available thus the contribution to the project is made that way.

2.) Is a different sort of Commision work, instead of rewarding the artist for the work, a donation would be made if said theme/image/work was uploaded to the site.

Tell me what you think (even if you think its a horrible idea and i can see both good and bad things about eighter)

I kind of like DAZZ's idea: just host your own contest, and I think if it well within the "regulations" of HS- that we would promote it.

So far we've had the SFIV contest and the MAME wheels contest, which both had prizes that were donated by the community.

If you had say a mame themes contest, you could take that $100 and split it into multiple prizes:

1) $50 for the most themes
2) $25 for the best theme (community vote)
3) Gold Member donation ($25) for best theme by a new member who hasn't submitted a theme before

This I think will maximize the "value" of your $100, course these are just suggestions.

//now that I think about it, a theme contest would be great with the new HyperTheme release!

I'd definitely be willing to contribute a few bucks for a theme that I really wanted but doesn't currently exist. Perhaps if there was a list of "guns for hire" people who really want a particular theme would have a resource. Several members could even poll their resources and pitch in for the particular theme. Could create a thread and an announcement, "Hey, I really want a theme for Crazed Crack Heads from Outer Space" or whatever and others who might want it could chime in and commit to the project.

Just riffing here, definitely food for thought, good topic, thanks for throwing it out.

SophT, while were on the subject if you need me to kick ya a few bucks for that RBT theme you're helping me out with I'm happy to do it. I know you are super busy as are most of the guys who work hard on this forum but if it helps the projects priority rise it's not beneath me to offer a friendly bribe. ;-P

A mame theme contest is a great idea. With the new HT there are a lot of ppl who are eager to do a bunch of themes anyway. And it would be a great incentive for others to start as well. Perfect time to do it.

I actualy like that idea' while i am not that interrested in mame as much, it is undoubtably where most of the focus is (and rightfully so) but i actualy like your idea so much that i think its worth a shot.

But i would hate to be in charge of a contest to be frank, the administrative point of running such a thing is something i dont have the time to commit to but im more than willing to sponsor the 100USD to get such a project running.

It's actually high on my list- unfortunately my boss was planning on flying to the U.S. with his wife next week to have a baby, but she got really really sick about 2 weeks ago, so they had to go to the E.R. in Beijing - and they haven't been back since. Now they're gonna have to have the baby in Beijing, and it's just a matter of waiting. On top of that my coworker got bad food poisoning or something and has been out for the same 2 weeks and counting...

But I'm working on it. I was actually hoping to do it with the new HT. ;)

Wow, man! It seems all kinds of people getting sick, we've had two really sick people at my work and I've had to carry the load too. Someone is conspring against us spending more time with out cabinets no?

No worries, would love to see it done with the new HT too. Thanks so much for the updated. :hello:

Regarding the contest to coincide with the new HT release, it sounds like a great idea to kick it off and raise the already high profile of the release. BBB may need a few more theme approval volunteers as I suspect that the current team may be overrun wit new themes very quickly and the backlog could really add up.
