Hi guys,
First of all congratulations for the project, it's looking awesome.
Really love what you guys are doing here, good luck!

Now for the request/suggestion.
I'm building my home arcade and this is a feature I'd love having in Hyperspin.
I know you guys have support for custom gamelists for each emulator which can be accessed through a menu, and when selected the wheel displays the according games (the default being 'All games'). Am I right?

What I'd really love is to be able to treat gamelists like I do games or emulators. Give them their own wheel image and even theme, and possibly set this up as the default gamelist when selecting an emulator.

Ex.
Emulator Wheel (Select Mame) -> Mame Wheel (All Games, Fighting, Platform, Puzzle, etc ... Select Fighting) -> Fighting Game List (Street Fighter, King of Fighters, etc ...).

And since the gamelists are custom, seems like it would be just as easy to separate games by genre as it would by alphabet, year, or whatever setup the user wants.

Also, I read you're planning (don't know how far along the line) to allow multi-emulator gamelists. If that is the case, being able to set up top level gamelists in the wheel itself (with wheel image and theme) would make your frontend just 100% perfect in my opinion.

I know this might mean a drastic change in architecture but it's a suggestion none the less.

Again, good luck with the project guys =D

I believe there is already a genre game list configuration for HS. It might not be completely implemented. One of the keys shuffles through each one. As far as a theme for each genre, that is completely doable right now. You just need to configure the wheel and design the artwork.

Multi-emulator gamelists were brought up before. I believe it is going to be implemented but has yet to be.

From an arcade cab POP, my personal preference would be:

From the mame wheel:
- you press and hold one of the buttons and a pop up menu comes up
- still hold the button, you move the joystick up or down to select the genre you want
- when you have the proper genre selected, you then let go of that button and the relevant genre/wheel gets loaded

The flashy way would be for the above to actually pop up another wheel and you select up/down with the wheel scrolling. You know, keeping things consistent eheh.

As far as a theme for each genre, that is completely doable right now.

Is it? That was pretty much my main point of the suggestion, giving custom gamelists a wheel image and theme, and no so much a question of organizing by genre (that was just an example).
Sorry then, I spoke misinformed.
I'm definitely going to try that out.

Thanks

you could add a wheel image and such for pretty much anything you wanted, you could do manufacturers on the main wheel, years, pretty much anything you want, just have to create the relevant main wheel config and art files.
