What admin buttons do you recommend for a control panel layout?

I was considering the following.

Pause
Esc

I was thinking one or two others maybe good for games like Future Pinball to select screen veiws or maybe just two in general to set whatever.

Ideas and thoughts please.

Thanks.

To me it depends on the front end.. Maximus arcade lets me use an emulator button for easy access, an exit, pause, page up and page down, volume, and tab

What I use mostly is the exit, pause, and tab.

I am going to be running Game Ex and HyperSpin.

I was not sure if I would need much of tab once I have it sat up. I will have a keyboard roll out tray.

So far I have planned on...

Player 1
Player 2
Coin 1
Coin 2
Esc.
Pause

Well if you are going to have a keyboard tray... those would be perfect. Pause is one of those things that works sooo nicely... sure it takes away from the authenticity but it really is useful. And esc is essential.

I use 4 buttons: Esc, Pause, Tab and... Enter. :)

Esc and Pause is what I use on my portable panel that I play in my living room. I also have shifted keys for enter tab save load and a few numerals (other than 1, 2, 5, 6) so I can have a few extra save slots.

All in all I think Esc and Pause is all you need visible. Everything else is truly admin and should not be available for players.

portable panel? wouldn't be wireless by chance? :D I'm thinking of building a cp but it'd have to be wireless

If you are putting a coin door in you cab you can do what I did on the last cab I built for a buddy. Put switches behind the coin rejects so when you push the reject it registers a coin drop. Another thing to consider is who will be using your arcade I have small kids so I have seperate admin keys for a lot of stuff. I don't think they would get the shifted keys.

ESC and TAB (setup as pause) are the only keys that I have setup as dedicated keys on my control panel. These keys are actually hidden behind the control panel so they are not accidentally pressed. For coins I have the coin door wired or you can hold player 1/2 start and press player 1/2 switch 1 to credit up.

No admin buttons at all. (and no roll-out keyboard either) Keep the control panel clean and authentic, like God intended . Use the shift function that's built into your keyboard encoder, that's why it's there. Many will disagree. To each his own.
