I have begun a daunting task of making sega saturn dvd style boxart. I have already 235 almost complete - I lack about 60 back covers. That means I have about 160 complete. Is anybody interested in helping? I could use some back covers. With the back covers I could probably be complete with the USA version in about a 3 days.
Here is some pics of some of the completed versions.
Please note that some pictures have some distortions because of resizing and I'm working on fixing that. Some logos have been updated (although in this post I don't have too many logos shown etc..)
Let me know what you think - I would also like to thank starcontrol in advance for placing quality photos on the ftp. There is also someone else who was working on this project and props to you to.
One more thing the spines are not complete yet.

thank you my plan is to use them in xbmc style setup. I have been inspired by a few that have been working with this kinda of style. I will also be working on pal and japanese games - the case will stay the same but the flag in corner will change to recognize the difference between versions. I possible could change the case color ... any thoughts?

Do you have the list of missing back covers? I can go through my stuff again and see if I've added anything lately. I think I've got a few raw scans that might help you that I could move to the head of the queue for processing.
Do you have the Euro stuff I put together?
Did you ever get the Asian collection I posted? Did you know there are 1265 Japanese Saturn games according to satakore.com? I've never gotten really serious about tackling those, but I think that what I do have is the definitive collection to date.

Sorry the post was getting to long. I have your pal collection and it's incredible. It may be easier to assemble than the usa covers because they are more complete. I also have a lot of japanese covers ... don't know how many (assuming that most of them came from you) got them from [redacted] and other sources. Do not have any asian covers. If you have any of these usa covers could you please put them on the ftp (let me know where to find them) and I will finish the usa project quickly.
Everyone who has tried through the years to assemble dvd covers for saturn has failed or has not shared them with anyone (mostly because they did'nt have a plan or help or they tried to do them all at once). I intend on finishing. That being said...bring on the covers.

I'm uploading my USA back covers to the Hyperspin FTP again. The path is something like:
upload here\source art
The connection is pretty slow, so it may take a while.
I know several of your missing covers will be in there. I'll check your list in more detail later, but I probably have a few more that are still in raw scan format that I can get to you over the course of the next week. The raw scans are 1200dpi images that are something like 150MB apiece and they really need straightening, cropping, gamma adjustment and descreening before they are usable, so I would rather not upload them in their raw state.
A fairly recent version of the Asian set is available in my torrent at **. There are a few other Saturn sets there, so make sure you get the one I uploaded.

All 247 USA front covers (which I believe is all of them) are completely done. I need about 40 or so back covers - please note that some of these photos were not quality photos (I'll upload some pics later). I used the best I could find. I am confident that once some of these are seen in hyperspin that we will want to replace them with updated photos. However, I do not have the ability to do gamma adjustment or descreening and to be honest with you I have no idea what that means. While I'm waiting I'll play around with the pal versions. Thanks for your help! P.S. Anyone else interested in helping?

these pal covers in your link are awesome. What's the chances of getting them to use in our hyperspin. There is no reason to re-invent the wheel. I was just trying to give alternatives to everyone. I also am going to use them in my game collection (display) in my office.
I don't know about using them, you'd have to contact the people at that site. I just stumbled across them a while back.

I went through your list and through my collection, and here's what's left:
I have raw scans for these that I will clean up this weekend:
NHL 98 (USA)
Space Hulk (USA)
These are in my collection, but they only include the back, not the spine:
Corpse Killer
Street Fighter Collection
These twelve covers are still missing:
Breakpoint Tennis
Earthworm Jim 2
FIFA Soccer 96
Galaxy Fight
Grid Runner
Machinehead
Magic Carpet
P.T.O. II
Scorcher
Slam & Jam 96
The rest of the covers on your want list are in the collection I uploaded.

yes, you are correct and I have already applied the ones that you uploaded. I am just cleaning up some of the "older version backs" that I was using with the ones that you uploaded. I still am not happy with some of the fronts and will be looking for better scans. Your work and investment in this project will be noted and given proper credit.
I have begun to work on the pal covers and I am having greater success at producing good quality dvd covers. I don't know why the pal covers are so much better than the USA but maybe they care more about the quality, anyway I digress.
Do you have a default game theme for sega saturn. I was hoping to plug it in and see how they are working and how they look. I will later today upload a couple of covers to allow you to review for me. I will put it in the same place that you put mine on the ftp.
Thanks for the help.

I still am not happy with some of the fronts and will be looking for better scans.
You have not because you ask not.
I am uploading my most recent set of fronts that are in a usable resolution. After you go through them, tell me what your most pressing needs are and I will try to help. I will probably have raw scans for most all the USA front covers that you are not happy with. Unfortunately it takes me about two hours per cover to clean up a Saturn USA front cover scan, so I can't promise lightning fast turnaround.
The backs for NHL 98, Magic Carpet, and Space Hulk are on the FTP now.

Sorry I was having a problem with my server and could not get online the last two days. I will let you know which ones that I need good fronts for. Turnaround it not necessarily as important as the quality that you are producing. Your backs are fantastic. Hopefully I can get you a list soon.

So I have completed the USA DVD Style Boxart and I need some advice... What naming convention are we using for Sega Saturn games? What size should I save these boxart at? (Currently at 750x750). Is anyone interested in the boxart that shows front and back (I don't know of anything like it in hyperspin-save 3D rotation... and I don't have that kind of program)? At least we have options.
Style 1 - 3D Boxart Cover (First 3 thumbnails)
Style 2 - Printable DVD Cover (4 thumbnail Flat)
Style 3 - 3D Front and Back Cover together (4 thumbnail 3D)
Pal 3D covers are on the way next. I will upload these USA covers by Friday. Any suggestions are welcome.

Great work. Personally, I would be using Style 1 boxes in my own setup but the others look great too, and it never hurts to provide people with choice to accommodate individual preferences.
As far as naming conventions go I would recommend just using the .xml in hyperlist since this will most likely be the most commonly used by HS users. I believe it is in TOSEC naming but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers.
BTW - After you finish up the PAL set I'll definitely be using your boxes

Finally, :five: USA and PAL 3D DVD Boxart are complete and uploaded to ftp. For your convenience I have uploaded 3D USA, 3D PAL and 3D Tosec (xml found on hyperlist).
Here are a few samples. DVD Boxart can be found on ftp. Upload/Sega Saturn DVD Boxart/

is it possible to name these as per the dark water standard?
BWheble
09-28-2010, 05:11 AM
anything is possible! The best solution is for someone with a naming convention program to rename these covers according to the darkwater standard and upload them to the ftp. I do not have such a program. I would have to individually name every one of them - already did that with tosec (what a pain!).
I do, however, think that it is a great idea to go with darkwater standard naming convention and even asked about this in another thread. If you would like to rename them accordingly - feel free to do so.
