Movie Themes

Hey guys, I just thought I'd share with you some of the movie themes I've come up with. Now before I get any criticism remember that I spent very little time on each one of these.... especially when compared to my mame themes.

I didn't spend much time on each one primarily because these are for my personal movie collection. It's highly unlikely that everybody has the same movies that I do... which means I'm going to have to make themes for *all* my movies - so taking a long time on each one is ill advised. The trailers aren't great quality but they're decent. I got most of them from youtube. If anybody knows where I can download high quality movie trailers let me know - although I'm not sure I want to waste 50 megs per trailer.... but I might!

So you know the program I use to play them is Videolan. (VLC) I've configured it to work with Hyperspin with Hyperlaunch. I've also modified the VLC hotkeys so that they work with my gamepad. I can browse the menu, launch the movie, fast forward, rewind, pause, volume up/down, add Spanish subtitles, and of course quit with my ps2 controller. It's super sweet. :)

Yeah, I've decided to go with the giant apple trailers after all because... well.... let's face it - they're hot. It's a bit unfortunate though as I won't be able to use them for all the movies, but for the ones that I can it'll be great. (Good luck finding high quality trailers for Schindler's List or The Little Mermaid... if you find them give me a link!)

Well, I'm totally in love with this idea and the themes. If you ever do any zombie movies, the Alien or Predator films (screw AvP that was a load of garbage) or stereotypical guy films (Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, Boondock Saints) you should let me know. :D

If only there was a way for a main menu affair for TV Shows.

(from the main menu) TV Shows -> Show Name -> Season ## and then select the episode # from the menu.

I think that putting a movie theme pack together would actually be a really cool idea - maybe just start with newer/big releases (like Iron Man, Dark Knight, or Incredible Hulk, for example), and expand it from there (cult favorites, Tarantino films, Coen Brothers, etc.). If it got started, I believe it would snowball really quickly, since lots of people are passionate about certain movies in particular, whether they be Sin City, The Big Lebowski, or whatever - and that way, you wouldn't have to worry about making every single theme for every movie you own - just the rarer or less popular ones, perhaps. :)

The trailers are completely dependent on how high of quality you'd like them to be. I mean, 1280x720 (and even higher HD) trailers are a dime a dozen these days - it's all dependent on what the quality/hard drive space equation looks like. Even more likely, it might depend on the movie (i.e. maybe you'd want the quality of a more often watched 'showcase' film to be higher than others.

And that Iron Man theme is gorgeous, btw.

Ehh... high quality trailers are easy to get for the newer movies. Some of the older or less popular ones are harder to find. You have to resort to youtube which really is low quality.

For example I can't find a high quality version trailer for Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain. (Absolutely awesome movie btw... great movie to watch with your gf.)

Amélie: What do you define as high quality? I found a few that are very clear BUT they are of the english trailer. I'm assuming you want the french version?

Well, French with English subtitles. Also I define high quality as the "large" apple quicktime trailers. So between 15 and 25 megs in size depending on the length, 640x340, 20-25 fps, h.264, etc.

you could probably rip the trailers off a DVD since that's where you'll more likely find them (trailers i mean)
