Here's my NES theme. Both the title and console/controllers fade in then the box art eases in with a 360 degree rotation from the right just as the video is fading in. Let me know what you think.

Thank's glad you like it. I'm now working on a version that will use the video overlay to create a slight glare on the screen to make it look like more like a TV. It all depends on the next version of HS supporting default.png overlay.

I'll add in default png overlay before friday's release, the only problem I forsee with doing this is that not every theme has an overlay so we dont want the default overlay to take over in those cases. I'll figure something out. I think I'm going to add an extra feature that makes TV static when a video loads as an option. I think that would be cool.

I hate to get too off-topic, but since you mentioned that, something came to mind. Can there be an option for theming to load up and embed the actual game in the preview screen (like how some games look in the preview movie section) so that it shows the live title screen/intro instead of using prerendered movies on the games' selection screens? This method would save disk space, not require every game to have a movie made for it (this way they would be automated) and would actually be pretty cool in my opinion.
An example of what I'm talking about: Say you want to load up Super Mario Bros. 3. You go to select the system and then you find the game. As you get to the Super Mario Bros. 3 theme, the fancy graphics pop up and then the preview screen. In the preview screen, you see the curtains rise and then Mario and Luigi jumping around and then the title screen shows up.

We already thought long and hard about doing this, theres a couple issues going that route,
no video overlay, no animated previews really, some games have a long boot up screen which looks messed up, (workaround is save states), but we wont distribute save states and not all games support save states, so basically though it sounds like a good idea it would be pretty hard to pull off.

Plus all the videos needed have basically been done already :) Besides a few here and there its mostly fringe systems that have not been done yet. Now GameEx does give you the option to use real games as a screensaver, problem is when you make it do other than mame you eventually get some kind of error or get stuck on a screen. And many will have no gameplay at all.
On a side note I am trying to aquire a 3DO console to make that video set right, in the hopes that emulation gets better someday soon :)
