Star Wars

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2294/starwarssx7.jpg

Animation is the Star Wars logo (grow centre shrink), video comes up (ease) from bottom, X-Wing is chased by Tie Fighter from right (arc grow) and Darth Vader's fighter (arc grow) from left and passes right between X-Wing and Tie Fighter.

The video has lots of cool speech from the game not to mention cool tunes, it looks better running of course.

I haven't touched up any of the art yet, they're just how I found them.

As usual, opinions and suggestions are always appreciated.

I think it's pretty perfect.

Perhaps you could find a better quality star wars logo ?

PS : How is your commando theme ?

I think it's pretty perfect.

Thanks, needs a little work though.

I'm pretty sure it's meant to be like that, I'll have to look around a bit for some other examples.

PS : How is your commando theme ? Very, very slowly, I've cleaned up a few images, I have Tuesday arvo off so I might get motivated to finish it.

Made some changes:

Added Bill's superior vector traced Star Wars logo.

Added vector looking Death Star (let me know if you like or dislike this) and Atari logo to background.

Changed animation of the fighters, I now have the X-Wing Fighter being chased by Darth Vader and two escort Tie Fighters (arc grow), first from right then from left, this way there is always some action happenning on screen.

Looking for any other suggestions as I still have one artwork1 spot empty, if I can't think of anything I'll animate the Atari logo.

Awesome changes !

For artwork 1 : What about a dark vador face fading out slowly on the right of the logo ?

Here it is:

Do you think it needs to be darker?

How about the size?

EvilDindon
09-30-2008, 03:17 AM
I think it's too precise.

Maybe add a small blur and/or a 40-50% transparency.

You should increase it a bit too.

Okay I added a blur and increased size, I think I have the size is right, just wondering if it's too dark?

Yeah the size is good but i think you should lighten it a bit and make it a bit transparent, like a vision in the sky ?

You could probably add some blasting effect or extra sound for the game, like R2D2 talking or the Darth Vader Breathing sound effect to it, also, some other Ships flying accross would be just great! please please!

Although I like both of them, I actually like the original logo better. It matches the style of the xwing and tie fighter artwork. The second one is a good trace but it actually looks too clean compared to the other artwork. JMO.

BTW, I am really impressed with all the themes created lately. I have been out of commission (back injury) for the past week and tonight was the first night I can sit down and check out the new stuff. Looking good!

The theme is great but I'm not a fan of the vader mask appearing out of thin air, seems out of place with the rest of the theme. What about random explosions relevant to the tie fighter / x wing fighter battle?

Okay folks need opinions:

Old logo or new logo?

Darth Vader mask in or out?

BadBoyBill

I'd take vader out, and either logo looks good to me.

EvilDindon

Yeah maybe the vador's face is too realistic compared to the other elements of the theme.

The random explosions on screen is a good idea, but you need a .swf file for that !

That's beyond my current capablities.

They would have be special space like explosions too.

Playing around with perhaps having an Imperial Destroyer slowly cruise (12 seconds) back and forth across the screen in artwork1, so it's behind the logo but in front of the background stuff like the Death Star.

http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3696/starwars640x480uo0.jpg

Any opinions, okay, no good, too big, too small, put it in front of the video etc.

Quick question for Bill, how come in HyperTheme the maximum time for an animations is 5 seconds but you can manually edit the theme.xml for whatever you like?

RetroBorg

On the video the speech is "Red Five, we're going in" and "Use the force Luke", I do have all wave samples from the game so I could add some but I'm not really sure how the sound bit works. You can't seem to add sound in HyperTheme, I've tried putting sound files in the sound folder both mp3 and wav format but no go, I'm assuming as there are no other sound files in the folder that this feature hasn't been implimented yet.

Good !

The size of the imperial cruiser is good. I'd like seeing it inverted though, for the symetry of the theme, and to not hide the death star.

Edit :
oops I just noticed it was animated and chasing both sides. Mea culpa.

It doesn't look as good in the picture like that as it is covering the Death Star, looks much better animated.

On the issue of explosions, maybe ask whoever did the missile command explosions if you can use them here. But even without the explosions, the theme looks great!

Thanks for the compliments.

I think the Imperial Star Destroyer looks better than the Vader head, I think the Vader head would of looked good with the right artwork or if I had better Photoshop skills, I think the Vader head on the Star Wars flyers looks pretty cool.

Dude you should have the ship come in from the right and hover while the deathstar comes in from the left in the back behind the video(artwork1), it will look like the ship is headed for the deathstar and flying. That would be way sick. The big graphics would look awesome to. Check out my interstellar theme for daphne, I did something similar.

You got it!

BadBoyBill has been kind enough to let me steal his Missile Command particle explosions.

I think they really add to the theme.

I'm pretty much thinking this theme is done, unfortunatley I've run out of time and got to go to work, hopefully I'll upload tonight or around this time tommorrow.

Well I thought it was blue, maybe Bill was right, I am colour blind.

I have now made it more blue (I think).

I ended up going with the Imperial Star Destroyer doing the hover thing like you suggested, I like the idea of that being on the screen all the time.

I was wondering if it was possible in future releases if you could get the hover to start hovering straight away, as there seems to be a bit of a lag for the hover to kick in.

Also it would be cool if hover had the command like hover="20" (20 might be pixels) and that controlled how much the object moved in the hover, anyway just an idea.

I tried the Deathstar moving in from the left and that looked really good but I ended up putting it back into the background as I needed that artwork space for the fighters coming from the right side, main reason was with the fighters coming from just the left side there are moments when nothing is on the screen, yet the explosions are still going off, didn't quite look right, but with the fighters alternating from both sides of the screen it means there is nearly always something zooming across the screen giving the explosions more authenticity.

Anyway enough dribble, unless anyone can think of anything more to change etc this is what I think I'll go with.

I just noticed this lag occurred when using the ease animation, if you select animation none and have the artwork starting from the right or left etc. it hovers straight away.

BadBoyBill
10-02-2008, 05:11 PM
"none" doesnt define a linear animation it refers to no animation so if your using "none" then start should be "none also. None just means the artwork appears and doesnt animate.

RetroBorg
10-02-2008, 06:13 PM

"none" doesnt define a linear animation it refers to no animation so if your using "none" then start should be "none also. None just means the artwork appears and doesnt animate.

Perhaps I explained it incorrectly.

Originally for the artwork1 (Imperial Star Destroyer) I had the line:

<artwork1 x="569" y="145" time="10" delay ="0" type="ease" start="right" rest="hover"/>

This had a lag between the animation stopping and hover starting.

I then changed the line to:

<artwork1 x="569" y="145" time="10" delay ="0" start="right" rest="hover"/>

With this the Imperial Death Destroyer still eases in from the right but also starts hovering straight after reaching it's location.
