View Full Version : Tiny/Micro XP
Hi Guys,
It's all looking very good, I am waiting with baited breath for the open beta. In the mean time I was just wondering if anyone as tested to see if hyperspin installs and works on either TinyXP or MicroXP. Being very minimal installs of XP they are ideal choices for running in arcade machines. They are fairly compatable with most software but there is the odd one that won't run.
Cheers,
Beau

It should run ok. TinyXp andnlited instals are miising alot.. Like the db and jet engine and even media player extentions. HS really isnt dependandnt on alot of other dll's so Im pretty sure it will run. I would sugget installing the .net framework tho.

Im running HS on an Nlited version of XP similar to Beast...ie barebones.
It works flawlessly. I do have the .net framework installed though. Not sure if that made a difference or not...installed it for something else.

I run it on TinyXP Beast w/o .net and it works just fine.

There isnt any major requirements to run HS except you do need .net if you want to run SpiderStyles HyperHQ software. Also I do recommend that you up your ram, flash only runs a garbage collection sweep at undetermined times which could cause your ram usage to be all over the place, sometimes it will be high then it will sweep and then it will be low again over and over again. This is a flash limitation and I have to be real careful about how everything runs because it could get ugly fast at times.

Hi Guy's,
I'm new. I have tiny xp in my cab and hyperspin wont run. On my laptop with xp pro it runs fine. When I run the exe on my cab the screen goes blank and stays blank. If I bring up task manager hyperspin is running. Hyperhq runs fine as i have .net installed.

Check your screen resolution settings, only one other person had this issue so far and Its probably something dumb like that. Match your arcade cab res settings to those in the hyperspin settings file. Also check the log file and see if theres anything weird in there.

Hi BBB,
I just checked the settings.ini and they match ie 1024 x 768. There's no log file generated unlike the laptop.

Do me a favor and make a blank text file called log.txt and see what happens. Put in the HS folder.

Let's not overlook the obvious. Can your arcade monitor support 1024x768? Can the video card in the arcade cab support that resolution? What is the hardware in the cab (cpu, video card, monitor)?

Do you have windows hacked up to remove stuff like the taskbar and all that or is it just a normal setup?

No just a normal install of tiny xp. Just drivers added for video card network etc.

This is when you first start running HS or when you go to the MAME (or other) subwheel? And you have the Main Menu wheel pack installed? Have you been editing any of the xml theme files? Just curious....I encountered that problem in the MAME subwheel after I edited the MAME xml and accidentally missed a piece of code for one of the games.

This is a first run. I double click to open HS, i get an hourglass for 5 secs then nothing. I double click again then the screen goes blank. After a minute or two i bring up task manager and it shows HS as running.

That use to happen if you did not have a DEFAULT.PNG in the wheel directory. In fact, I just replicated the problem by deleting DEFAULT.PNG from my directory.
Be sure that you have in your \Media\Main Menu\Images\Wheel directory a file DEFAULT.PNG. If it's not there, HS won't display anything.
