All,

Just finished wiring my control panel (4-Player) last night an I'm already having issues. For some reason only player 2 is working perfect, player 4 is half working (right side of control panel). The only way i can get the buttons & joysticks to work for players 1 & 3 is if i hold down button number 6 for that particular player. I checked the wiring a thousand times and can find anything wrong and i configured the I-pac with the recommend key codes. I also checked the LED on the I-Pac and it stays up, no blinking. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it!!!!!!!!

Run the self diagnostic on the IPAC4. This can help show what buttons might be messed up.

Entering test/program mode:

First, run any program which displays keyboard characters. In Windows, the best is Notepad. In DOS, you can enter the following which will supress the command prompt: COPY CON NULL (if you use this, hit ctrl-Z when you have finished, to get back into the command prompt)
Ensure the shift-lock is off.
Then, on the pass-through keyboard, press CTRL-ALT-P. You need to press and hold the keys in that order but don't hold each key for too long otherwise the keyboard auto-repeat will kick in and upset the sequence.. You will get a menu sent to the screen as the I-PAC uses "virtual typing" to simulate keypresses to generate the messages. One thing this method can't do is display fancy graphics! This is strictly text only!

You might also want to download the Passmark keyboard Test (http://www.passmark.com/ftp/keytest.exe). This will help find stuck buttons as well.

Good writeup, Dazz.
Here's the keyboard testing utility that I like to use, "KeyThis":

It's a tiny 10 kilobyte program that pops up a window and displays your keypresses. Probably very silimar to Passmark. Using one of these utilities, Rayzor, go through your buttons 1-by-1 and make sure the keys you meant to assign to your buttons and joysticks actually got assigned correctly.
