View Full Version : Movie Themes Preview #2

I quickly made up another preview video of my movie themes. For those who don't know when selected these are played in VLC (VideoLAN). VLC is set up so that it opens to fullscreen the moment a file is opened and all the controls for it (fast forward, pause, rewind, change subtitles, etc) are mapped to my gamepad so I control everything with it. Of course this can be changed to a joystick or whatever else you want.

Anyways, I hope you like them. A couple more weeks and I'll probably put out a torrent.

You know how I can tell you have good taste in movies and in quality trailers? You let the trailer for Jaws play out almost all the way. Jaws: One of the best trailers ever imho (same with the movie itself).

haha - actually that's not even near the end of the trailer. The trailer goes on for a few more minutes. It's just the cool part. :D

awesome.....how do you fit all those movies on a HD?

Each movie is somewhere between 700 megs and 1.5 gigs. My movies directory is only 44 gigs right now. There's still plenty of space for more.

I mis-explained. I meant "all the way through the JAWS trailer" so it shows you have good taste. I saw all the other trailers afterwards too, well done.

No, I know - I'm just saying that the Jaws Trailer alone is over 3 minutes in length. If you leave it on that movie then the whole trailer plays obviously. Here's the entire jaws trailer:

Anyone have any advice on converting DVD movies to a small file format like he did? I'd like to set up HS to watch movies exactly like he did. But I have no experience in converting movies. Tools, software, etc etc....

Thanks!

There are lots of programs to rip DVDs to Divx. It just takes a while (or a lot of cpu power) but it's not hard to do.

ahh i see....u rip them to DIVX? and then convert those to .flv for the previews?

Well the movies themselves are typically in Divx format already when I download them however I'm sure they use a variety of codecs... Xvid, etc. That's for VLC to worry about though. I don't typically rip movies because it takes so long with my computer.... I just download them.

The only situation where I need to modify the movies themselves (besides renaming them) is if I download a movie that is split into 2 or more files. (Occasionally movies are split so that they fit on CDs.) If this is the case then I use Easy Video Joiner if I can because it's faster.... but if it doesn't work (which happens quite often) then I'll use Allok Video Joiner to combine the files into 1 big one.

As for the trailers I download them from apple, movie-list, and if all else fails and I can't find higher quality... youtube. (To download from youtube I use a program called vixy.net which converts them to quicktime files... skipping the next step.) I then convert them to quicktime files if they're not in quicktime format already using a program called Moyea FLV to Video Converter Pro. (For files downloaded from sites other than youtube, apple, or movie-list.)

After that I load them into Adobe Premier Pro CS3 and cut out anything I don't want which is usually just the 5 or 6 second preview screen at the start but occasionally I need to get rid of letterboxes as well. I then export the movie as a quicktime file.

Once I have the modified quicktime file I then load up Ultra Flash Video FLV Converter and convert it to an FLV for use with Hyperspin.

Is the torrent going to come packed with the trailers? That would cut out a lot of time for a lot of people(including myself). Looking great!

Any update on this coming out as a torrent? Been awhile since it was mentioned, or is it going to be solely for your personal use? would be nice to know so that those wanting to start a movie selection could wait or begin their own if theres no planned release. Only stating that as you stated `i`ll probably release a torrent` and its been quite awhile. In the meantime, im going to release mine into the mainstream in the hope others follow suit.

Can't wait till you upload the torrent. This would work out great as an addition to already an awesome front end.
