View Full Version : hyperspin 2.0 possible features
Since HS 2.0 is on the way and all i see is an ancient sticky thread from version 0.8 that is hard to follow, here is a new thread:
I will start with simple ones :)
1. favorites menu should give option to exit from favorites to all games if we are already in favorites, going to favorites on start could be option in hyperhq
2. relative paths - it should be possible to enter relative paths in all ini files so that HS works out of the box when copied to another location
.\dir1\dir2\... meaning from HS main directory and
..\dir1\dir2 meaning from dir above HS main directory
there is something like that in HQ already but I'm not sure it's working cause when i try to use it I still get C:\... or D:\... paths in ini file
MAME is for example transportable it uses relative paths (roms, artwork, ...)
3. artwork paths, special artwork paths, wheels, themes path could be configurable (relative or absolute path) so that you can redirect them or use same images for several wheels - just like video path is configurable
Can't think of anything else right now :dontknow:
1. this should be corrected in the next version.
2. this should work in the current version. You may have to manually edit the files instead of using HQ
3. not gonna happen. They need to be with the main folder as placing them elsewhere could cause un-wanted slowdowns when the wheel or themes are loading.

The only thing I can think of ATM is adding a function that pre-loads the initial wheel assets before HyperSpin starts. My current system is fairly decent and runs HyperSpin smoothly once it's up but the first time the MAME theme transitions in is painful (very slow animation and stuttering sound.)

1. This will be fixed on the next version. Option to start of favorites isnt planned, I might add it.

just tried 2. - relative paths - they are working but same as favorites - not from HQ
if you put them in ini everything is great
but in HQ - problem is that you cant write text in input field freely and if my HS home is
c:\games\emulators\hyperspin
and exe is
c:\games\emulators\mame\mame.exe
and i choose . or .. for relative paths then only "c:" is changed with "." or ".."
HQ knows my current directory and should for . replace whole current directory string c:\games\emulators\hyperspin\ with . and in case of .. - parent directory part of my path should be changed with .. - ie c:\games\emulators\
I see that you intended to do so cause there is . and .. option but this part of replace logic is missing
another option would be to leave field open for manual entry of string
same goes for video path which could by default be relative to . so that you don't have to change it ever
another two ideas:
4. I see options "use parent video" and "use parent theme", but when i use both of them i see that also parent wheels are used, is this default or part of one of those two options - maybe just change of string to use parent video and wheel - or use parent theme and wheel would be more precise
5. i see filter options:
themes only
wheels only
parents only
it would be great to also have:
videos only
roms only
working only
I think many people asked for last two filters, the last one only for mame, cause other games don't have easy way to check if the game is on working list

Seriously though, I meant caching of the initial theme (in my case the MAME is the first entry to appear when HyperSpin is started,) video and program assets. Maybe it's just my machine, but when HyperSpin loads it's a dog until the initial wheel theme finishes its transition in.

The next HS has a seperate option for use_parent_wheels already.
roms_only is already working in the next HS also. Working only is something that will probably be a function of HyperList or HyperBase. I know hyperbase is already working on that.
Caching the main theme isnt really what's causing your startup slowdown, actually though Im not really sure what that issue is because it only happens to a few people not everyone.

It would be great if we could have multiple favorite's wheels to choose from and boot into.
When having parties I would like to have a party favorite wheel that would have about 100-150 games on it.
I have noticed that when new people come over and play games they always seem to choose a game that uses a wheel, or a spinner, or some other controller that I don't have on my cab.

We bumped around a couple ideas and I think there is something in the works that should make a lot of people happy when it comes to favorites. So, rest assured that we are exploring ideas.

I think it would be great to be able to access a Genre list from the main menu that would show all the games of that genre for all systems to choose form.
I don't even know if that would be possible, or if it already is.
I'm a big fan of VS Fighter games, and the 3D games that don't work in MAME I use the PSX version, so I just think it would be cool to select VS Fighters and have MAME/PSX/SNES and any other system games all in one list to choose from.

I would like that hyperspin 2.0 has the option to select other language that english, particulary spanish.
I'm from Spain and i know a lot of people from Spain that use HyperSpin that will be very happy if this happens sometime ...

AFAIK there is no text in Hyperspin, it's just images or flash. So you could make your own images with spanish text and substitute them and voila!

The wheel text and game info text is actual text everything else is images, but the next HS there are no images anymore and it will all be text. So you should be able to change things to spanish easily. I'll probably add a language file for some of the built in text like "Add to favorites?" can be changed to a different language.

DNo, this function has no need by the front end. Just compile or download a no-nag version.

I don't think you are going to be able to do wheels within a subwheel. But I am sure you can get the same effect by creating a Publisher genre.

(Hey, my last question/request for this in Feb 2010 so...figured I'd try again for the new version...I'd love to use this instead of Maximus. Hell, I'll pay $25 to get this feature included just to NOT have to use Maximus)

Thank you for the feedback. Can you PM me the name(s) of the mame no-nag versions so that I can locate the program(s) to trial. If you also know where to get the instructions on how to compile the mame source to remove the nag screens that may be of help too.
