    Default Renaming Rom Sets

    Hey everyone,

Ive decided to update my mame machine to the new version of hyperspin as well as update artwork ect.

I have complete rom sets for a bunch of systems but dont know how to rename them to match what hyperspin is looking for (to match up with artwork, video, and xml file names)

Last time i went through by hand and renamed every rom that i wanted to match the one in the hyperspin xml... I really don't want to do that again

Is there a way to rename my rom sets (mame, nes, snes, atari, sega, ect) match hyperspin's name standards so it will work with the artwork and video files without having to rename them one by one?

I've been reading the forms and saw information on in-intro dat files and rom center.. am not very familiar with them. I just downloaded romcenter but and not sure if I am on the right track.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    This would save me hours!

    Thanks

I'm not sure why you would need to do that if you said you already went through and renamed your rom sets once before. Why would you need to rename them again?

Thanks, I will read the clearmamepro tutorial. I have done it before but for only like 100-150 roms, not a complete set. But now I would like to have more games and would like an easier way to organize it.

    Thanks everyone!

Well then as Sopth said clrmamepro is the way to go. You could also use fatmatch if you want to just match them to your artwork/video files.

I am not having any luck with clrmamepro. I tried to with both my nes and snes rom set but it didnt find any matches. It asked if i wanted to delete them. Is it only compatible with certain versions of rom sets?

Thanks for you help guys... This will be a 1000 time better than my old method

if roms don't match you can't fix them with clrmame, but maybe you can with fatmatch, never tried that but it should be possible

or you can find full no-intro set and filter it with clrmame and dat files to remove duplicates and save disc space

Thanks, I was able to find no-intro sets for most of my systems but mame. I am still trying to figure out how renaming mame roms work :|

AFAIK mame set .137 is ok, no need to rename and i never saw no-intro mame

did you run clrmame on it? i didn't but it should be fine

there is one small "optimized" set for mame - lashek's greatest hits - in download section - around 1500 best games out of 8000, if you get genre xml's also (i had to create genre.xml didn't find it) then you can see all games by genre (shooting for example) or only best games in main menu

You shouldn't need to rename mame roms. The only time you should ever need to rename any mame roms is if you have an older set where a few have changed. But even then the number of changed names is very small. Mame roms have a specific naming convention that is used.
