dopdahl Posted August 4, 2015 Share Posted August 4, 2015 I'm fairly certain that in the distant past, I saw a write up in this forum on modifying standand, non-LED buttons to illuminate them. Specifically, I recall that the user was cutting the top off of black buttons and replacing the cut out plastic with plexiglass discs and gluing everything back together. And then, of course, adding LEDs as well. Does anybody know what I'm talking about our have a link to this write up? I can't find it anywhere. Thanks! You can buy a pushbutton with a solid coloured rim and a transparent plunger and place a solid piece of vinyl or something thin but capable of blocking the light in the middle of the button to get a similar effect. Here is a link to a guy that has done this but made some extra modifications because he didn't have a fully transparent plunger. highwaypcguru Posted August 14, 2015 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Just buy standard backlight buttons and replace the globs with a\ high bright white LED and a 220 ohm resistor for 12v operation. I also found for the sound, a cheap set of pc speakers do the trick, just remove the amp from the speaker and solder into the cabnet Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
EvilNuff Posted August 25, 2015 Share Posted August 25, 2015 I experimented with this some several years ago. I posted over at BYOAC so might be able to dig up the results. My summary was cutting the buttons evenly was quite a challenge. Getting the resulting cuts cleaned was more effort and you definitely want a laser cutter for the acrylic disks for the lighting.
