4-way & 8-way arcade databases?

Has there ever been any 4-way or 8-way joystick arcade game databases made before?  Or maybe genres?  Seems like it might be beneficial for people who have either stick, or one of those that switch, so they can go through games with that joystick in mind.

hmmm I didn't see any 4way or 8 way genres in the hyperlist database area, are they in the download area instead?  I just thought it would be nice to have to know what you are playing, instead of having to switch your joystick back and forth because you didn't know the next game you picked was 8 way now all of the sudden.

you can make your own in a matter of minutes

use RomLister  to generate a MAMELIST.XML  or download one

https://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/

Using Filter HyperList  (found in the Don's Tools folder)

Using MAMEList.XML to identify what type of joystick each game uses,  you can trim the MAME XML.

Open HyperList

Filter out all NON 4-way joystick games --> generate 4-way joystick XML

Filter out all NON 8-way joystick games  --> generate 8-way joystick XML

this is the same method I use to trim the MAME XML to only include the games I want.

FYI

HyperList  can also generate a MAMElist.XML,  but it can only generate a generic joy

The filtering methods above work well but if you want something really cool and automatic I'd check out the Servostik by www.Ultimarc.com.  If you setup LEDBlinky to launch with Hyperspin (use the "no LED mode") it will automatically switch the stick from 4-way to 8-way based on the game.

retango put up a post for U360 programming that includes an INI with a lot of this information.  You could open the .ini file in excel, autofilter by type, then use the results to construct the XML files.  I realize it's not every game, but there's over 1000 here.  I went ahead and exported it as .csv file, which may help.

Woahhhh it will switch auto? Now that is amazing.  Have you personally used one?

Yeah they're awesome.  Ultimarc sells a longer joystick shaft too in case you're mounting it in wood and don't wish to router.

Not my video but this shows it very clearly:

Again, use LEDBlinky to drive the action.  Just make sure to turn on the option in LEDBlinky for "no LED" operation, that way it'll just handle the Servostik and not look for LED output codes.

The U360 can auto switch between 2-way (horizontal & vertical), 4 way, 8 way, 49 way (sinister), diagonal (ala Qbert), analog and you can also get rotary added to it.

Hai,

In RL you can set iT on or off.

I never used blinky, and iT works Like a charm here!

1 thing you must keep in mind. Out of THE box the servosticks moves not very smoothly, so i did a bit waterproof sandpaper, and used vasaline on it. Now it goes very smootly.

Greets,

Ger
