Mame softlists/organising Hyperspin files

Apologies for spamming the forums!!

I'm getting close to starting to setup MAME on Shield TV but only want to do it once!!

Am I right in saying that there is no MAME android emulator that will launch games if they are named as Hyperspin XML database?

My database and media has to be named as the MAME roms short name.

So you renamed all your artwork I guess. Is there an easy way to do that?

Is that xml from the member I have seen mentioned phulsof or something like that?

I would like to split up my romset into the the different systems so I have my Atari classics in it own folder for example. Keeping my MAME wheel only as games I don't have another system wheel for. (I'm not planning on updating roms that often and will keep the full set backed up). I suppose the other way would be to edit out all those games from my MAME database but that could be hard.

I just not sure if the mame4droid or retroarch can work like that. I know I can just change the rom path in my hyperspin .ini

I don't have the .139 set for mame4droid but may get that at some point or try to figure out how to roll my set back without effing it up!

Since the MAME rom names are universal, I've never had a naming issue with MAME (when compared with other systems).

The default Hyperspin .xml and media files 'just work', although I've been primarily focused on those games/roms that have themes only.   I run with themes filter = true.

Thanks Reznate, when I was browsing the forums a saw a suggestion to rename mame roms to hyperspin xml so assumed it the same situation as console systems. I will download the hyperspin xml again and check the "gamename". I must not understand what the softlists are.

Do you know if my plan to remove certain system roms out of my full MAME romset into their own folders is compatible with current android emus?

Not sure if I understand what you're trying to do?  You don't have to change anything in the Hyperspin XML for MAME.  As long as you download a .139 MAME romset, put it in your MAMAE roms folder, it will work.  You don't need to do anything.  If you want to remove some roms you can do that as well, just remove them from the XML or filter them with the "roms only" filter.  The vast majority of roms will work even if you don't have .139, the names don't change very often and Hyperspin doesn't do a CRC check on them.

For MAME arcade games, no name changes are needed, since the art matches the MAME naming.

For MAME software list roms you have 3 options:

1. Rename the art to match the MAME names.

2. Rename the roms to match the HS names.

3. Download a matching HS ready romset.

Thanks just re read a thread you were on in platinum/roms forum named Roms (fullset) which made things clearer also.

I know MAME and MESS are combined but for ease are there MESS roms include in those 0.173 fullsets I see.

Hyperspin is my history lesson in retro gaming so please excuse my lack of knowledge!! I didnt know what Atari Classics were (and many others) before seeing Hyperlist.

The only thing I am unsure of is if the android emulators can load MAME/MESS roms that have been renamed

Not sure if I understand what you're trying to do? You don't have to change anything in the Hyperspin XML for MAME. I think I will just drop a set in and be done with it and use the filters like you say.

Want I want to do is have my mame roms split up by manufacturer. I'm not planning on updating anytime soon. Just so I can understand what's what and not have to move a 50+gig folder around.

It's probably not worth it but just something I was thinking of doing.

Example

Atari Classics Wheel

Atari Classics ROM set in its own folder

MAME wheel

Only ROMs I have no other wheel for
