Reefboi16 Posted June 2, 2016 Share Posted June 2, 2016 So it is another Graphics card question, there are so many to look at so many ways to go about it. AMD vs NVIDIA, reference cooler or pay premium price for one with a custom cooler. Right now I am emulation up to Dolphin but have been playing with CEMU and Xenia a little bit. I have ran into graphics issues with CEMU can run some games but not many. I know its still in the works but games that have been deemed compatible and running will not run or run the crash for me, or the graphics are way off than what I have seen. Right now I am just using the on board intel HD 4600. Any recommendations? I want to be set for a couple years do not want to have to upgrade for a while but also don't want to break bank. My other question is how are you guys supporting the graphics card when putting it in your cabinet. I don't have a computer case for my build and do not want to get one. I imagine they're pretty cheap by now and while it isn't remotely the best, it combined with my 3700 i3 cpu I can run the latest PC games at max settings, 1080 & 60 to 200 fps. I've yet to play a game that it doesn't smoke through. However I don't know what Cemu is (pretty ugly name for an emulator), the most demanding emu stuff I run is probably PS2 and it handles that no problem (the ones I've tried anyway). I quit running open PC parts in my cab and instead I now keep it all built in a squat Master Cooler case. Keeps it clean, can't tip over, easy to reach in and remove if I need to work on it, easy to connect things. I won't go back to a free-ballin' case myself. Reefboi16 Posted June 2, 2016 Author Share Posted June 2, 2016 The only reason I am running open case is because my pedestal is an all in one ish design I made. I have computer in there, sound, and even the projector all built into the cabinet. So I felt that keeping it in a case I could not keep the case cool enough along with the rest instead I put the pc lower knowing that hot air rises and made sure to place all my vents/ fans in key location to give it the best possible cooling. Styphelus Posted June 2, 2016 Share Posted June 2, 2016 Just a note here - certain Taito Type X game will not run on AMD cards. You need a Nvidea card. I had a AMD and I can confirm this. I recently bought a Nvidea GeForce GTX 970 but you may not need that much power. The GTX 960 is cheaper and just as good. Even the 950 will be a very good purchase. It's a bit overkill but it gets the job done… I've also been playing around with CEMU for the past few months to test it out, and can run Mario Kart 8 in the 50-60 fps range, Super Mario Bros U at 60fps. With some time and optimisations CEMU will get better and faster. With the GTX1080 and GTX1070 announced and around the corner you may see some price drops in older cards, so if you can hold off for a bit you may be able to score a good card for a decent price. That is not a bad idea I might hold of for a little bit before making my purchase. I am running an i5-3470 and am able to run most games but MK8 I cant so ill be doing some price watching for sure!! Get the Founders addition if you can swing it since it has all the extra cooling needed out of the box should you decide to overclock. Lots of people will be upgrading their GTX 970 cards come June 10th when the first 1070 hardware becomes readily available, you probably can snag a great deal on what on the 970 if you watch. It's all about the processor. Also the issue with cemu is Intel GPUs just flat out don't work with it Yet. It's right on cemus homepage. The emulator is still too new. Even over clocked i7s can't run the games perfectly. Though some games run at 50 to 60fps there are plenty of slow downs. Don't expect a video card to fix that. I think you are getting confused thought. It is not the processor that is the problem If i get an nvidia or amd graphics I will be good on runing Cemu with my i5. I'm not confused. My point is even if you get a stellar video card you aren't going to be able to run games perfectly. Still plenty of slow down issues with CEMu. Go watch YouTube people with insane systems even better than mine playing mario kart complaining about frames slowong down / glitchy sound on the latest version. The issue is the emulator is still too new. Yes if you get a better video card will it run better? Yes but not because a more powerful card is helping because the emulator just isn't compatible at all with your on board video. If you wait your on board card will be fine and as per most emulators it will be mostly using your CPU. Now would I recommend getting something other than on board video? Absolutely mostly because of better drivers but also because it's now less stress on your CPU which is already doing all the work for your emulator. You just don't need anything all that powerful for emulators. A low end or middle of the road nvidia card will be perfect. Which was my point in my original post.
