rfancella Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Hello all! Thank you for taking the time to check out this guide. I have been helping out people on this Forum for a while now. One thing I have noticed, that is very annoying, is all the Ad/Spy Ware on their PC's. It clogs up their browser and is not healthy for the computer at all. Unfortunately, one of the biggest culprit of this is DAEMON Tools. It is needed for many CD/DVD based emulators, so I thought I would take a couple screen shots and a little time to write this up. Hope this helps out some people. Navigate to the DAEMON Tools main website: http://www.daemon-tools.cc/home Scroll down and find the link near the bottom of the page underneath "Products" and click the link that says "DAEMON Tools Lite 4": It will take you to the DAEMON Tools Lite 4 Product Page. Click the Download link as shown here: It will then take you to the download page. Be sure and scroll down to the Download link. The second one. The first one is an Ad based download link. Stay away from it. Use the Download box below the product description: Depending on your browser, you will either get a dialogue box that has a "Run" button or one that requires you to save the file first. If you can run it, please do so, otherwise click Save File: Once it is fully downloaded, go ahead and run the program: The DT (DAEMON Tools) installer will start. Click Next: Then "I Agree": If you have paid for a license, keep the selection at Paid License, otherwise select "Free License" and click "Next": I personally prefer it to install only what is necessary. So, if you would like to, make sure the Windows Gadget is not selected and click the "Next" button: This is where you have to really start paying attention. On the Special Offer screen, click the "Skip" button: Again, pay very close attention to the next screen! Choose "Custom" for this Special Offer screen also. Then off-check each one of the "Special Offers" and click "Next" Whew! Finally, click "Install": Let it run through the install process: And you will finally get to the "Finish" screen: You should be given a "Reboot now" dialogue. Go ahead and reboot. We will continue with the configuration when it comes back up: If the program does not start automatically, run the program by double clicking the icon on your desktop. It should bring up the DT Lite window. On some installs, it will auto mount a DT drive for you. We need a SCSI drive for HyperSpin. So, if that's the case, select the drive in the bottom of the window and click the "Remove Virtual Drive" icon: Once it is removed, just click the "Add SCSI Virtual Drive icon and it should add one for you: Now, to do some config. Right click on the Virtual SCSI drive and select "Drive Parameters...": I have setup my gear so the next available drive letter is D. This is handy because many emulators look for this drive letter as a default. So, I prefer to keep it there. But, you can select any drive letter you want. Be sure and un-check the "Auto insert notification" box and click "Ok": Now for the program "Preferences": Many of these settings are personal preference. So use them as you prefer. Be sure General is selected on the left. Uncheck all the settings and click "Apply": Click "Confirmations" on the left and un-check all the options there as well. Click "Apply": Whew! Almost done with DT Lite! Click "Media Info" on the left and un-check "Enable Media Info panel". Click the "Apply" button and then the "Close" button: Ok, that's it for the DAEMON Tools program. Let's go ahead and setup DT in HyperLaunchHQ! Launch HyperLaunchHQ and be sure "GLOBAL" is selected on the left. Click "General Settings" on the top bar and "Third Party" on the sub-tab. In the section labeled DAEMON Tools, click the magnifying glass and browse to the new DAEMON Tools Lite instillation directory. Be sure and click the Add Drive check if you desire to: Lastly, click the "Settings" tab on top and be sure the "Main Settings" sub-tab is selected. In the "DAEMON Tools" section, set "Enabled" to 'true" and "Use SCSI" to "true" as well: That it! Go ahead and test with one of your CD/DVD bases systems!!! Check out some of the other guides in my signature. As always, feedback is required! suspendedhatch Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Gah! Could have used this last night. Actually, this clarifies some things like that I should delete the virtual drive and change the drive letter to D. I'll try that as I'm still having problems getting NeoGeo CD to work. I wish there was a list of what emulators need this. I've found that Sega CD and Playstation don't. Sega Saturn (SSF) does. And apparently it depends on whether you're using iso or bin/cue. I also want to post that there's a known permissions problem with DTLite on some systems (mine is Windows 7 64bit) where it will give you an error when you try to create a SCSI. You have to edit the registry to get it working. http://daemonpro-help.com/en/problems_and_solutions/registry_and_sptd_problems.html

rfancella Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Might be a good idea to put that list here. Or at least start it here, yes. I think a topic like that deserves it's own thread in the long run. gooch Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 I use installers from ninite.com when I build a fresh copy of Windows. It lets you check boxes from dozens of the most common software packages and lets you d/l one installer for all of them, and all of it has the crapware removed. In this case you could just check the box for Daemon Tools only.

StefanV Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 Hi rfancella, daemontools lite has been updated to version "DTLite501-0406.exe" an it asks for serial number during installation?! I am not quite sure where to get one and if this is needed. Thanks, Stefan.

I am not quite sure where to get one and if this is needed. Thanks, Stefan. Stefan, I noticed last week that they now had a version 5 out. I would not install it yet. I think (no proof) that the version 5 will not work with HyperLaunch. Need additional information or if someone has tried to install it and if it works or not. To answer your question, I thought you just hit Next and it filled in the free serial number for you.
